Sriram on his Trek 3700
Name – M.S Sriram
Age – 21
- Presently doing mechanical engineering. at BMS college (3rd year)
- Hobbies include running, cycling, travelling, etc
Until just 2 years back, I was a fat kid who was ever bloating. I loved playing cricket but had a recurring back problem.
I decided to visit a doctor and it was only then that i realized how overweight(97kg) I actually was!! Decided to put an end to my sedentary lifestyle and start exercising. So I joined aerobics classes which was a one hour workout but I never seemed to lose more than a couple of kilos. Then i decided to take up running at a park in the neighborhood. Initially I used to run couple of kilometers with breaks and after a few months i could run 10-15km with great ease.
I had learnt that cross-training (cycling, swimming) would have results on running. So I borrowed my neighbour’s Ranger Swing and tried cycling to college. I was doubting my ability to cycle 25km that too in Bangalore’s traffic. But then it was smooth sailing and I actually realized how easy it is to cycle, any distance for that matter! I had to part with the ranger-swing as i had borrowed it only for a couple of weeks. I found the BOTS (BumsOnTheSaddle) site on the net even before they started actual operations and was excited in becoming their first customer!! I visited these guys on a Sunday and was hesitant to even ride such expensive bikes like the TREK’s, but one test ride and it changed the way I thought about cycles. I was totally impressed and became busy saving money for the trek 3700. I got it in august 2007 and have faced no problems at all.
Presently, I can describe myself as super-fit (lost 25kg/added muscle) . As far as biking(cycling) is concerned I would love to see the momentum which is currently active to go to the next higher level and involve people from all walks of life to take on cycling/running as a hobby/means of transport, etc and spread the enthusiasm that people like me have.
Thank you BOTs, wishing you all the best
